Editions Fawbush is pleased to announce the publication of a new edition with Christopher Chiappa. The piece is titled Asshole, and is a self-portrait made by collaging hundreds of bits of pornography of female genitalia together - as referenced in the title - to create an image of the artist's face. It is loosely based on a quote made during a conversation, "nobody can make you feel like a bigger asshole than your girlfriend", and it shares many of the qualities of a much larger version titled Big Asshole. It was created from the same pieces of pornography as the larger version, and the performative aspect of hammering out each of the die-cut elements is also the same. Like much of Chiappa's work it deals with performance, self-portraiture, and serial imagery with typical irreverence.
Asshole bears formal resemblance to the work of Chuck Close. The piece must be seen from a distance to identify a face, but is a maze of delicate collage work when viewed up close. The work also sarcastically mocks itself. Asshole was recently exhibited at mirror, London College of Printing, The London Institute in the Heart of Glass exhibition.
